Domaine de Favette is a spacious, restored 19th century farmhouse set in its own 4000m² grounds in a tranquil secluded location, with vineyards to the front, and the River Aude to the rear. It has a good sized private pool (10 x 5m approx), with a range of chairs and sunbeds, and a sound system. The large south facing terraces are ideal for making good use of the barbecue. It's a great suntrap.
Inside, most rooms have the original oak beams and tiled floors, and wooden shutters to help keep rooms cool in the summer (fans are also provided for when it is really hot). A large, comfortably furnished open plan living room with original beams, tiled floor and wood burning stove also has a dining table and quarter sized snooker table. Well equipped kitchen including range cooker, dishwasher and microwave, with washing machine, freezer and extra fridge in a separate utility room. There are three double bedrooms (two with ensuite shower rooms) and two twin bedrooms, a family bathroom, and a wet room downstairs.
Only a short drive or bike ride from Coursan, within of all local facilities, such as boulangeries, supermarkets and banks
Well-behaved dogs are also very welcome, and they will love the complete freedom afforded.
Domaine de Favette is ideal for exploring the Languedoc region, visting the spectacular Cathar castles and visiting the extensive Mediterranean beaches.
Domaine de Favette is five minutes from the wine producing town of Coursan, with its narrow streets, 17th century church and daily market. Typically French - check out the bars on the main street - it is quiet and relaxed, but has the facilities needed: banks, supermarkets, and several boulangeries.
Just 10 minutes away is Narbonne with its historical centre, the Cathedral St Just, bustling market, many restaurants and cafes and excellent shopping facilities. It is the old Roman capital of the Languedoc and there is a section of the original Roman road visible in the main square outside the Cathedral.
The extensive sandy Mediterranean beaches of St Pierre sur mer and Narbonne plage are only 15 minutes drive, through the La Clape nature reserve with its many wine producing chateaux. Further afield are expansive beaches at Gruissan going south, and towards and beyond Beziers to the North.
The fairytale medieval centre of Carcassonne is 50 minutes drive.
The Canal du Midi runs nearby, and it is possible to hire boats for a day if you fancy a slow cruise along the canal.
Coursan is an ideal base for touring Cathar Country, and the Minervois and Corbieres wine regions, with their many picturesque villages, vineyards and local markets.
Agde, Sete, Montpellier and the Haut Languedoc National Park are all within easy reach. You can also visit the African Wildlife Park at Sigean, and even drive to Barcelona (250km distant).
There are also many restaurants within a short drive, in Narbonne, Capestang, Bages and in the centre of Beziers - details are in the comprehensive house book.
