The location

Garlieston village dates from the 18th century, and still provides a base for a handful of fishing vessels. It is perhaps best known as the birthplace of the WW2 Mulberry Harbour - traces of which can still be seen along the shoreline.

Just 10 minutes drive away is Wigtown, Scotland's Booktown with a selection of small shops and eateries, and Whithorn, with its ancient priory. The surrounding countryside is unspoilt and beautiful, dotted with historic remains and interesting small villages, with a rugged coastline offering a variety of quiet beaches and coves.

Within easy reach for a day trip is the Galloway Forest Park, the picturesque village of Portpatrick with views of the Mountains of Mourne, and Scotland's southernmost point, the Mull of Galloway. There are numerous historic sites of interest to visit, and some great gardens open to the public, including RHS Logan.

Our area

There is a well-regarded village pub - the Harbour Inn - within 5 minutes walk, offering excellent food.
